Why is Sleep so important?
Getting a good night sleep is just as important to your overall health and well being as eating healthily and exercising. Sleep and your overall well being go hand in hand. The recommended hours of sleep for an adult are 7-8 hours per night, so if you are getting less than that, you need to re evaluate and start making sleep a priority for your health. Not only will you feel better and energized, you are doing yourself a favour and will see and feel the benefits for years to come.
A good sleep plays such an integral role in your mental and physical health. Studies have shown that poor sleep habits and ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes and a high risk of heart disease.
By getting enough sleep you are also resting your mind, body and soul whilst also helping reduce levels of stress, reducing irritability and enhancing emotional stability. You are also improving brain performance and concentration. So next time you are thinking of staying up that little bit later for no apparent reason at all, think twice! Give yourself the rest you deserve and be well on the way to a healthier, happier you!
