We may all be guilty of hitting the snooze button multiple times in the morning, or running out the door with one eye open, the other still in dreamland…BUT it doesn't have to be that way. How you start your morning sets the tone for the entire day, so why not be good to yourself. Here are five positive ways to start your day:

1. Wake up calmly
Set your alarm with time to spare, don't set it with 15 minutes to get out the door, as that will create unnecessary pressure and panic. Having a little extra time, will allow you to get through your morning routine or rituals in a leisurely manner, set your tasks for the day and allow yourself to get in the right frame of mind to tackle the day ahead.

2. Make your bed:
When you make your bed first thing in the morning, you have already achieved the first task of the day and shows the importance of getting your day off to a great start, which then in turn encourages you to take on another task and happily succeed at them. By engaging in the simple things in life, it allows you to focus more positively on the bigger things. And if by chance, your day has been exhausting, or not the best, you have a beautiful freshly made cozy bed to climb into and relax.

3. Drink water:
Instead of reaching for a grande latte, make sure your first drink of the day is a tall glass of warm water with a splash of lemon in it. Lemons are a great source of vitamin C, promotes hydration, freshens breath, improves your skin quality, and allows your digestion system to get moving whilst alkalizing your body.

4. Eat Breakfast:
Breakfast is in fact the most important meal of the day! By eating a healthy breakfast, it will give you more energy, you will not be as hungry during the day, it will give you better concentration and help you focus on tasks. Think of it like this, by skipping breakfast, you are effectively running on empty, similar to a car without petrol. You should eat breakfast within two hours of waking up. Choose a nice healthy breakfast and see how productive your day can be.

5. Focus on the positive:
We are all guilty of pressing the snooze button then reading emails, or a news article. But switch your phone off, get off your laptop and focus on what is positive in your life especially at the start of your day. We can get so distracted about the day ahead or what we don’t want to do, but try to focus on what you can do, what you are lucky to be able to do. Practice gratitude and focus your energy on positivity.
