FUN FRIDAY WITH JORDY LUCAS - FOUNDER AND EDITOR OF SHE DOES THIS!
Jordy Lucas is the founder and editor of SheDoesThis.Com, and also best known for her starring role as Summer Hoyland on Neighbours. Jordy is a firm believer that when women come together, magic happens, which was the driving force behind her highly successful lifestyle and business hub featuring women who have a passion to succeed.
Having been in the entertainment industry both in Australia and America from a young age, Jordy has seen a lot of the negatives that come with such a competitive industry and decided to use her own experiences and knowledge and turn that into a positive. Jordy is currently completing a Communications Degree, majoring in Journalism and PR and is extremely passionate about creating not only positive content but a platform to celebrate and support women.
I sat down and had a chat with Jordy and she was truly delightful. Jordy is the perfect combination of heart and determination and how refreshing and inspirational it is to see someone with such a desire to make a difference in others lives. Any platform that celebrates and empowers women gets our vote, but having such a compelling and compassionate editor such as Jordy Lucas makes it that much sweeter.
1. Please introduce yourself!
I'm Jordy Lucas, founder and editor of SheDoesThis.com. I also spent 3 years starring on Neighbours as Summer Hoyland.
2. What inspired you to start your business/blog/career?
About two years ago, I had just returned to Australia from living in LA pursuing acting. The entertainment industry is particularly competitive but it's also an industry that tends to pit women against each other. No one is ever beautiful or skinny enough and I really resented that. I had so many talented girlfriends so I decided to create a space where we just celebrate one another instead of tearing each other down. I have always loved writing and being creative so I thought a female empowerment blog was the perfect outlet for me.
3. Describe your typical working day!
I'm finishing off a Communications degree (majoring in PR and Journalism) at the moment so that takes up a lot of my time. I try to create at least some content for the blog each day. Sometimes it's writing an article or simply posting on social media, it's important to be constantly engaging with your followers so that's always part of my working day.
4. Secret FUN fact that we may not know about you?
I'm a bit of a nerd! I love watching documentaries, doing puzzles and reading. I have a million games of Words with Friends and Chess with Friends running on my phone at the moment!
5. Favourite Colour?
I love blues and purples. When it comes to my wardrobe, I love black and dark tones!
6. What or whom adds colour to your life?
My family and friends bring me so much happiness. I am so lucky be surrounded by such amazing people.
7. Five things you cannot live without?
My family, friends, dog, good food. My phone is also super important as it connects me to my emails and social media which is crucial for my business!
8. Favourite Quote?
"This too shall pass". Whenever I get stressed, overwhelmed or am having a bad day, I remind myself that with every bad time, there are a million good ones to come.
9. Favourite place in the world?
Melbourne! It's my home town and there's always something going on here. Apart from Melbourne, London is my favourite city in the world. I just love it!
10. If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
Don't sweat the small stuff! If it's not going to matter in 2 months, it's not worth losing sleep over.
11. Positive influence/s on your life?
My parents have been much positive role models for me. I love how strong my Mum is as a woman and I love how gentle my Dad is as a man.
12. Favourite tv/shows at the moment?
I'm a huge sucker for reality TV! The Voice is my favourite at the moment.
13. Favourite SODA & Co product?
The sugar scrubs! Mint Burst would be my favourite scent. As I'm quite pale, I often wear fake tan so these scrubs are a great way to prepare my skin.
